The society is an academic organization aiming to contribute to the advancement of medical care in pediatric hematology/oncology in Japan by promoting academic activities, raising social awareness, and conducting research and accreditation of specialists in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology. Our current activities include the following:

  • Promotion of academic activities in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology through organizing academic conferences, workshops, and lecture meetings
  • Public relations activities through the publication of journals and research articles in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology
  • Conducting research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology
  • Development of accreditation criteria of specialist physicians in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology, accreditation of specialists, and related public announcements
  • Collaborative activity with relevant organizations in Japan and abroad
  • Other activities related to achieving our goals

To facilitate these activities, a board of directors consisting of 17 board members and 2 auditors support the leadership of the president. There are 19 standing committees, 2 advisory committees to the president, and 7 disease-specific committees.

The society publishes a quarterly journal, The Japanese Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (JJPHO). In 2015, we made JJSPHO available online. In addition, we appointed an English journal, Pediatric Blood & Cancer, as our second official journal. An academic conference is held once a year and is jointly organized with the Japanese Society of Pediatric Oncology Nursing.

We also launched an accreditation program for pediatric hematology/oncology specialists at the time of establishment of the society. This program provides the accreditation of physicians (pediatric hematology/oncology specialist physicians, pediatric hematology/oncology supervisory physicians, certified pediatric oncologic surgeons, and area-specified supervisory physicians) and training facilities for pediatric hematology/oncology specialists in order to train competent physicians specializing in pediatric hematology/oncology and improve the quality of healthcare in this area in Japan.
